2017 Bernat Blanket Stitch Along Clue 2

2017 Bernat Blanket Stitch Along Clue 2

2017 Bernat Blanket Stitch Along Clue 2

Wow!  That first week flew by, didn’t it?  I hope you’re ready to take the next step on our journey of mystery together.  Click HERE to get the 2017 Bernat Blanket Stitch Along Clue 2 from Joann.com.  (If time got away from you and you need a recap you can still check out the blog on Clue 1.  Don’t worry the clues and videos aren’t going away after the Stitch Along so you can work at your own pace.)

I think you’re going to like Clue 2.  Right away you’ll notice that we are knitting another panel.  ONE panel.  Please don’t knit two panels this time!  If you just can’t stop yourself and you end up with 2 it would make a great kid’s scarf. (See how I just repurposed part of blanket into a gift idea.  Keep these stitch patterns in mind as you are planning your gift knitting this year.)

Something new…

Yay!  We get to add in Contrast A today!  Now we’re going to see all the colors coming together.  I love that.  After you cast on the first row is all knit and is a set up row before we get to the main stitch pattern.

The first square of this panel uses a 2-row repeat.  Row 2 is all knit and Row 3 uses a new stitch, the K1below – knit one in the stitch below.  This stitch alternates with a purl stitch on Row 3 to create a gorgeous textured rib.  The K1below may be a new technique for you, but I’ll show you exactly how to knit this stitch in the video.  Just like last week, each square is 6″ long so have your measuring tape ready.

Something wrong…

Nobody’s perfect and we all make mistakes.  (Yes, even me!)  Because of that I’ll also show you a common mistake when working the K1below so you can avoid the problem.  If you do need to rip out some of your work I’ve got tips for showing you how to undo and fix the problem so you can move forward.

Something old…

After the first square is done you get to move back to familiar territory.  Yes!  The second square is knit in seed stitch and it’s in Contrast B again.  I know you’ll find this part easy because you just did it last week.

Something just for you!

Since you only have one panel to knit this week you’ll be ready to bind off before you know it.  You get some time this week to relax.  Enjoy a cup of coffee while you browse your fellow knitters’ progress on the Bernat Blanket SAL Facebook page.  Go yarn shopping.  Or spend some time daydreaming about what the next clue will be.

Go to Clue #3!

Notes for Loom Knitters:

I hope you enjoyed working on Clue 1! If you missed it I’ll be covering notes and demoing stitches on the loom during my live broadcast each Monday at 9 am central time on the GoodKnit Kisses Facebook Page.  I’ll be linking the video of the broadcast below.

Clue #2:

This Clue has a new stitch pattern with a couple new abbreviations.

SlwyifP – slip with yarn in front of peg.

Typically when we slip a stitch in loom knitting we skip the peg and the working lays behind the peg.  For this stitch pattern we want the yarn to wrap the front of the peg.  We won’t be knitting over these loops until the following row.

K1below – knit one below

Work this using the pegs that were slipped (SlwyifP) on the previous row.  Wrap the peg and knit both bottom loops over the top loop.

Instructions:
Make 1 strip

Cast on 13 sts with Contrast A.

**Row 1: With A Knit all.
Row 2: P1. *SlwyifP, P1. Repeat from * to last 2 stitches. SlwyifP. P1.
Row 3: K1. *K1below, P1. Repeat from * to last 2 stitches. K1below. K1.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 until piece measures 6″ ending after Row 3.

Row 4: Knit all.

Change to Contrast B.

Row 5: Knit all.
Row 6:*P1, K1. Repeat from * to last stitch. P1.
Row 7: *K1, P1. Repeat from * to last stitch. K1.
Repeat Rows 6 and 7 until piece measures 6″ ending after Row 6.

Change to Contrast A and repeat all instructions from ** three more times.

Basic bind off all sts.

Hi, Kris I've never done a KAL before and I was very excited when the first clue went live. You are an excellent teacher and your videos are very clear, but I just can't get comfortable with the yarn. Since clue one I've been kind of disappointed. I'm an experienced knitter although I've never used this weight before, and I have to say that the finish on these strips is not up to my standards. I am not a fan of pearl stitch because I dislike all the yarn switching, but I did the whole strip and the stitches looked lumpy. I waited for week 2 and had the same response to the outcome of the knit-below stitches.
