Eddie the Eagle Knitting Contest & Red Carpet

Eddie the Eagle Knitting Contest & Red Carpet

Eddie the Eagle is a new movie about a young man named Eddie Edwards, with dreams of being an Olympian.

Eddie the Eagle

Chance to screen movie Eddie the Eagle, walk the red carpet and photo moment with GoodKnitKisses

Hey everyone!  I’m super excited to announce GoodKnitKisses followers will have the chance to win a seat and have a Red Carpet photo at the Dallas red carpet screening of Eddie the Eagle! In the film, Eddie’s mom knits and ends up making this fun sweater.  We won’t be making a big sweater but the contest will be to make a white beanie or scarf with a big red “E” on it for Eddie the Eagle. Taron Egerton (playing Eddie Edwards) and Hugh Jackman (playing Eddie’s coach Bronson Peary) will be there walking the red carpet as well! I’ll be there, too but honestly am a little freaking out about Hugh being there….squeeeeee!

There will be 15 winners chosen and they get to bring 3 guests to the screening in Dallas (winners get 4 seats!).  All people in the beanies and scarves will be photographed on the red carpet together! So make one for yourself and all your guests; I’ll be there with the winners to celebrate in the fun and be in photos with you, YAY!!!

**You MUST be local or able to get yourself to the event.  That means most people living in or around the Dallas-Ft Worth (DFW) area would be able to enter but if not, and you can get yourself here in time, please submit your entry.** The red carpet screening event takes place on February 18th, 2016 in Dallas, TX.

Eddie the Eagle features a super white sweater with a red capital letters; so you can knit or crochet your white beanie hat and then duplicate stitch the E in red. You can also embroider or chain the letter on.

To enter:

  1. Make your beanies or scarves (white with red E).
  2. Photograph you AND your 3 guests wearing the beanies/scarves.
  3. Post the photo, with the following hashtags, to the GKK Facebook Page (click link): #EddieTheEagle #GoodKnitKisses
  4. Deadline is to post by Feb 14, 2016 12:00 pm CST (That is “noon” Central Standard Time)

Winners will be announced February 15th by 4pm CST.

(Be sure you respond by midnight (CST) so I can add you to the guest list – winners must present ID at the event to attend)

There will be 15 winners chosen and they get to bring 3 guests to the screening in Dallas. I will be there, too!

To help in making the beanies, you may make them yourself or purchase one on Amazon.com.  i normally don’t advocate for buying mass machine made inexpensive beanies but since it is a short deadline (and I hope you can make 4 for your whole party to take a photo on the red carpet with me) it’s totally okay. 🙂 Below is a video of how to sew on the duplicate stitch on top of your knitting courtesy of my friend Marla Morris.  Marla is a knitting, sewing and multiple crafts instructor in the DFW metroplex.  She is so excited to join us on this fun venture that she created 3 different charts to use in making your Eddie the Eagle beanies and scarves!  Thank you Marla for all you do!

Notes from Marla:

I prepared 3 charts–designed for bulky weight yarn on stockinette

The pattern I used for the plain beanie is available from Purl Soho:  http://www.purlsoho.com/create/2012/11/23/whits-knits-super-soft-merino-hats-for-everyone/

I used Cascade Pacific Chunky in white -02 for my sample, knit with an Addi 10.5US circular needle.

Or visit Wool and the Gang’s site for a bulky knitting pattern complete with the whole alphabet if you want to make another later.  They sell awesome yarn, tools & more so check out their site, too! http://www.woolandthegang.com/free-pattern/eddie-the-eagle/knitting-pattern (not a sponsored link, they don’t even know I’m referring to them so send them some love, okay? 🙂 )

See the charts below and Marla’s video to Duplicate stitch your Eddie the Eagle beanie, too.

If you can’t participate in the contest I do hope you get out there and watch the movie.  My husband and I were able to attend an advance screening a week ago and loved the message and encouragement it show.  Eddie never stopped believing he could make his dream happen.  Never stop believing in yourself no matter what!

I am wondering if you have a loom knitting pattern for a diaper cover.

Hi, Diana. Denice Johnson designed a wonderful diaper cover and it is shown on the GKK blog here.
