The Criss Cross Potholder design mimics a twisted knit cable. It also creates the illusion of a thatched circle on a striped background. Whichever design your eyes see, this woven potholder is beautiful.

This pattern contains written instructions and links to a weaving chart and fully-captioned tutorial videos showing the entire project for both right and left handed weavers.

MATERIALS

Loom
⅜” potholder loom with 72 pegs.

Loops
38 cotton potholder loops (for 7” loom)
Color A: 19 loops (light blue)
Color B: 19 loops (dark blue)
Notions
Weaving tool
Crochet hook to bind off

MEASUREMENTS About 5.5” x 5.5” (14 x 14 cm)

NOTES
This design uses two colors on both the warp (vertical) and the the weave (horizontal).
You place all the warp loops on the potholder loom first. Then you weave the horizontal loops according to the row instructions.
In the row instructions below, directions written in parentheses ( ) are repeated. The number of times to work the repeat are listed after the parentheses.

INSTRUCTIONS
Warp:
Place loops vertically (from top to bottom) on Pegs 1-19 alternating Color A on the odd pegs and Color B on the even numbered pegs.

Weave:
Row 1: With B, weave over 1, (under 1, over 1) rep to end of row.
Row 2: With A, weave under 1, (over 1, under 1) rep to end of row.
Row 3: With B, weave over 1, (under 1, over 1) rep to end of row.
Row 4: With A, weave (under 1, over 1) twice, under 1, over 2, under 2, over 1, under 2, over 2, under 1, (over 1, under 1) twice.
Row 5: With B, weave (over 1, under 1) twice, (over 2, under 1) four times, over 1, under 1, over 1.
Row 6: With A, weave under 1, over 1, (under 1, over 2) twice, (under 2, over 2) twice, under 1, over 1, under 1.
Row 7: With B, weave over 1, under 1, over 2, under 2, over 1, under 1, over 2, under 1, over 2, under 2, over 2, under 1, over 1.
Row 8: With A, weave under 1, over 1, (under 2, over 2) three times, under 3, over 1, under 1.
Row 9: With B, weave (over 1, under 1) three times, over 2, under 2, over 1, under 2, over 2, (under 1, over 1) twice.
Row 10: With A, weave (under 1, over 1) twice, under 3, over 2, under 1, over 2, under 3, (over 1, under 1) twice.
Row 11: With B, weave (over 1, under 1) twice, over 2, under 2, over 1, under 2, over 2, (under 1, over 1) three times.
Row 12: With A, weave under 1, over 1, under 3, (over 2, under 2) three times, over 1, under 1.
Row 13: With B, weave over 1, under 1, over 2, under 2, over 2, under 1, over 2, under 1, over 1, under 2, over 2, under 1, over 1.
Row 14: With A, weave under 1, over 1, under 1, (over 2, under 2) twice, over 2, under 1, over 2, under 1, over 1, under 1.
Row 15: Rep Row 5.
Row 16: Rep Row 4.
Rows 17-19: Repeat Rows 1-3.
Bind off using crochet hook.
