How to Crochet the Crossed Cluster Stitch

How to Crochet the Crossed Cluster Stitch

Inside: Learn how to crochet the crossed cluster stitch with this free blanket square pattern in 2 sizes. Includes fully captioned tutorial videos for both right and left handed crocheters.

I love learning new stitch patterns.

There’s just something about flipping through a pattern book and one jumps out at you and you know you have to try it. That’s how it was with the Crossed Cluster stitch.

In crochet, it’s so easy to make crossed stitches and this one is no exception. Even a new relatively new crocheter can learn how to crochet the Crossed Cluster stitch. And with my tutorial videos (see below) it’s even easier.

One of the things I love about this stitch is that it’s reversible. That makes ideal for blankets and scarves where you’ll see both sides.

I’ve included a pattern for a blanket square below using this stitch pattern. While the pattern has two square sizes (7″ x 9″ and 12″ x 12″) you can resize this pattern to make a full size blanket. The stitch pattern requires you to chain a multiple of 3 +2 so keep that in mind when resizing.

If there is a + sign after the multiple for a stitch pattern that means there is an extra step to figure out your cast on. For example, if a stitch pattern tells you to cast on a multiple of 6+1. That means, first, you need to find a multiple of 6 that will give you the correct size project. If your gauge gives you 5 sts/in and you want about a 7″ washcloth you need the closest multiple of 6: 36 stitches. Then you need to ADD 1 more stitch to that, so your actual cast on would be 37 stitches for the project.
