How to Loom Knit a Bowl Cozy

How to Loom Knit a Bowl Cozy

Inside: Free loom knit Bowl Cozy pattern including written instructions for 2 sizes and fully-captioned tutorial videos.

The loom knit Bowl Cozy is perfect for protecting your hands.

This washable cotton cozy insulates you from both hot and cold dishes.  They are great for microwaving a steaming hot bowl of soup that you can pick right up.  Or use it to keep your hands from freezing while enjoying a bowl of ice cream.  This design uses 4 triangles worked in garter stitch and shaped with increases and decreases that are seamed after knitting.

NOTES

Cast on: I used the double E-wrap cast on.

Knit stitch: I Use the U wrap knit stitch. The E-wrap will be too loose for hot items.

Increases:

Kfb – Knit into the front and back of the stitch:

Make a True Knit stitch by wrapping your working yarn above the stitch, pull yarn loop through and place NEW stitch on outside peg without removing the existing stitch. Ewrap knit the existing stitch. Tug working yarn to tighten tension.

Kfpb – Knit into the front and purl into the back of the stitch:

Make a True Knit stitch by wrapping your working yarn above the stitch, pull yarn loop through and place NEW stitch on outside peg without removing the existing stitch. Purl the existing stitch. Tug working yarn to tighten tension.

Decreases:

NOTE: All decrease terminology in this pattern reflects working purl rows toward the left and knit rows toward the right.  If you are left-handed or working in the opposite direction, the way you work the stitches is still the same, but the terminology is the opposite.

P2tog – Purl 2 together: Move the right stitch onto the left and purl both stitches together.

Ssp – Slip, slip, purl: Move the left stitch onto the right and purl both stitches together.

Row 6: Knit to end of row.

Repeat Rows 5-6 three times. [21 (27) sts].

Bind off loosely using the purl bind off.

NOTE:  On 2 triangles leave a 1.5-2 yard tail for seaming. All other tails should be woven in before seaming.

Make 4 total.

Seaming:

Place the triangles RS up on table in front of you with bottom points toward the center and side edges lined up.  (Your pieces should resemble a 4-leaf clover.  See image.)

Use long yarn tails to seam along side edges using the whip stitch method.  Weave in remaining tails.
