Inside: Free pattern for the loom knit Cabled Linen Hat. Includes written instructions for 3 sizes and tutorial videos for the linen stitch, 4 over 4 cable and decreased crown.
Cold winds are coming!
And I’m not just saying that because I’ve been seeing Christmas decorations in the stores for weeks already. (Why DO they put them out so early?)
But the reality is winter will be here before you know it. My loom knit Cabled Linen Hat is made with super bulky, super soft yarn so you’ll be ready for whatever winter has to bring.
The Cabled Linen Hat features a beautiful 4/4 cable set in a linen stitch body, a ribbed brim and decreased crown. It is worked in the round on an odd number of pegs.
Pattern includes written instructions for 3 sizes and links to fully captioned tutorial videos detailing the cable technique, stitch pattern and decreased crown.

Hat is worked in the round. For right handed knitters work from right to left (clockwise); left handed knitters should work in the opposite direction (counter clockwise).
Flexee Loom setup: Start with 3-peg light link. Add dark 2 peg rounded link. Place marker on peg one; next to 3-peg link. Add another DARK 2 peg rounded link. Next add 2 LIGHT rounded pegs. The following pegs start with a DARK peg followed by a LIGHT peg in a normal set up until all pegs needed for cast on and connect in the round. Notes that the first 8 pegs will be used for a 4×4 cable. The two dark pegs will move together and the two light pegs will move together. Suggested to use ONLY rounded Flexee Loom pegs for the whole loom or the first and last 10 pegs to make cable easier.
Be sure to cast on so that your final 3 stitches will be on the 3-peg link. You will decrease these stitches and replace the 3-peg link before working the crown.
Slwyif: To slip with the yarn in front, you want the working yarn in front of the fabric but behind the peg. See the video for the quick hack to work this without moving the stitch.
4/4RC: 4 over 4 Right Cable. Remove first two links from loom together and hold to back (or place 1st 4 sts on cable needle). Connect loom and knit next 4 sts. Bring yarn to front and place sts back on loom or place held loom links. TIP: knit the first stitch on the held stitches before moving to easy tension as needed. Loom will be tight for next few rounds but will easy up :for next cable round.
Shaping the top: For shaping the top of the hat Flexee Loom instructions are listed first, followed by instructions for other adjustable and non-adjustable looms.
Cast on 33 (49, 57) sts and connect in the round. Place stitch marker on Peg 1 to mark beginning of round.
