Chevrons are an absolutey classic design.

And who doesn’t love the classics?

The Two-Two Twill Chevrons Potholder creates the iconic nested arrow design using two colors of potholder loops. This easy loom weaving pattern is fully reversible and works up quickly and easily. This design includes both a 17-peg and 18-peg version.

The original design is done using all 18 pegs, but it is slightly off center. I found using only 17 pegs created a perfectly symmetrical potholder. My Type A self likes this much better!

This pattern includes written instructions and links to a weaving chart and fully-captioned tutorial videos showing the entire project for both right and left handed weavers.

MATERIALS

Loom
⅜” potholder loom with 72 pegs.

Loops
34 (36) cotton potholder loops (for 7” loom)
Color A: 17 (18) loops (orange)
Color B: 17 (18) loops (purple)

Weaving tool
Crochet hook to bind off

MEASUREMENTS About 5.5” x 5.5” (14 x 14 cm)

NOTES

The two-two twill chevrons design uses two colors: 1 on the warp (vertical) and 1 on the weave (horizontal).

You place all the warp loops on the potholder loom first. Then you weave the horizontal loops according to the row instructions.

This design uses either 17 or 18 pegs and both versions of the pattern are included below. Using all 18 pegs creates a design that is slightly off-center. If you plan to seam the squares together as part of larger design we suggest using the 17-peg option.

INSTRUCTIONS

Warp:

Place 17 (18) Color A loops vertically from top to bottom. (See photo below. 17-peg version shown.)

17-peg Weave:

All weaving loops use Color B

Row 1: Weave *over 2, under 2. Repeat from * to last peg. Weave over 1.

Row 2: Weave over 1. Weave *under 2, over 2. Repeat from * to end of row.

Row 3: Weave *under 2, over 2. Repeat from * to last peg. Weave under 1.

Row 4: Weave under 1. Weave *over 2, under 2. Repeat from * to end of row.

Rows 5-8: Repeat Rows 1-4

Row 9: Weave *over 2, under 2. Repeat from * to last peg. Weave over 1.

Row 10: Weave under 1. Weave *over 2, under 2. Repeat from * to end of row.

Row 11: Weave *under 2, over 2. Repeat from * to last peg. Weave under 1.

Row 12: Weave over 1. Weave *under 2, over 2. Repeat from * to end of row.

Rows 13-16: Repeat Rows 9-12.

Row 17: Repeat Row 9.

Bind off using crochet hook.

Row 1: Weave *over 2, under 2. Repeat from * to last 2 pegs. Weave over 2.

Row 2: Weave over 1. Weave *under 2, over 2. Repeat from * to last peg. Weave under 1.

Row 3: Weave *under 2, over 2. Repeat from * to last 2 pegs. Weave under 2.

Row 4: Weave under 1. Weave *over 2, under 2. Repeat from * to last peg. Weave over 1.

Rows 5-8: Repeat Rows 1-4

Row 9: Weave *over 2, under 2. Repeat from * to last 2 pegs. Weave over 2.

Row 10: Weave under 1. Weave *over 2, under 2. Repeat from * to last peg. Weave over 1.

Row 11: Weave *under 2, over 2. Repeat from * to last 2 pegs. Weave under 2.

Row 12: Weave over 1. Weave *under 2, over 2. Repeat from * to last peg. Weave under 1.

Rows 13-16: Repeat Rows 9-12.

Row 17-18: Repeat Rows 9-10.

Bind off using crochet hook.
