How to Weave a Square Spiral Potholder

How to Weave a Square Spiral Potholder

Inside: Free Square Spiral Potholder loom weaving pattern with written instructions, link to weaving chart and tutorial videos.

The Square Spiral Potholder is one of my favorite designs to weave.

This unique pattern creates a two color spiral on the front and an eye-catching design of nested arrows or mitered squares on the back.

Unlike some of the other potholder designs I’ve featured this one doesn’t have a pattern repeat so pay close attention to each row as you are weaving the loops.

This pattern contains written instructions and links to a weaving chart showing the design and fully-captioned tutorial videos showing the entire project for both right and left handed weavers.

If you follow the right-handed video your spiral will twist counter-clockwise and the working the project left-handed results in a clockwise spiral. You can work up both and combine them to make a large hot pad.

NOTES

The square spiral design uses two colors on both the warp (vertical)  and the weave (horizontal).

You place all the warp loops on the potholder loom first.  Then you weave the horizontal loops according to the row

instructions.

This design shows the square spiral on the front only.  The back shows nested arrows pointing toward the center

You can find a detailed chart of this design at Piglets Potholders Patterns: Square Spiral Potholder (18-peg) (Shared with permission under Creative Commons license CC-by-SA)

The back of the potholder has a completely different design.
