How to Loom Knit V Eyelet Lace

How to Loom Knit V Eyelet Lace

Inside: Learn how to loom knit the V Eyelet Lace stitch pattern with this free pattern, knitting chart and fully captioned video tutorial.

While working on the lesson How to Loom Knit Eyelets I designed a simple eyelet lace blanket square. But I really wanted to play around with some stitch patterns that used eyelets to create unique designs.

V Eyelet Lace sample in blue and green

The V eyelet lace stitch is easy to loom knit and is absolutely beautiful. By combining right and left leaning decreases when making the eyelets you get the distinctive V shape.

If you want to see the V eyelets lace stitch pattern incorporated into a design with a border. Keep scrolling to see the blanket square pattern I designed.

The V Eyelet Lace blanket square uses a pattern of eyelets to create this eye-catching design. The pattern includes written instructions for 2 common sizes (7″ x 9″ and 12″ x 12″), knitting chart of the stitch pattern and links to fully captioned tutorial videos that teach how to make the eyelets.

This design includes the seed stitch border plus I added a extra columns of knit stitches along the edge of the stitch pattern to get the width I wanted for the blanket squares. That’s one of the way designers adapt a stitch pattern into a design. If I had just used the border with the stitch pattern my block would have been too narrow. So, a few extra stockinette stitches make it a great fit.

NOTES

I’ve included two square sizes in this pattern that are commonly used to make blankets.

The written instructions include a seed stitch border: 3 stitches on the sides (plus some extra knit columns to get the correct width) and 3 rows on the top and bottom. The chart does not include the border and is intended only to show the main stitch pattern.  If you decide to change the size be sure to add your own border to prevent the edges from curling.

Yarnover: place working yarn in front of peg and move on to next peg. (For other loom knit yarnover options, I recommend my How to Loom Knit Eyelets post. It shows 3 methods for making the yarnovers and compares the sizes. And, of course, I have a video demonstrating all the techniques.)
